Americans beat Swedes at World Team event

05/16/2011 - Dusseldorf, Germany (Sportsbook Betting Lines) - Last year's runner-up, the United States, defeated Sweden 2-1 Monday at the World Team Cup tennis event, a final clay-court French Open tune-up.

Two-time French Open runner-up Robin Soderling of Sweden overcame American Sam Querrey 5-7, 7-5, 7-6 (7-3), while the U.S. got a win from John Isner when the 6-foot-9 slugger swatted little-known Swede Christian Lindell 6-4, 6-1 in singles action at Rochusclub.

The best-of-three clash was decided in the doubles, when an American duo of Isner and Mardy Fish topped a Swedish tandem of Simon Aspelin and Robert Lindstedt 4-6, 7-6 (7-5), 10-4, as the third set was decided via super tiebreak.

The U.S. and Sweden, both four-time winners of this event, are in the four- nation Red Group, while four other countries makeup this week's Blue Group. The Americans lost to fellow four-time winner Argentina in last year's final here.

The United States hasn't won this round-robin tournament since 1993.

The Americans will battle Kazakhstan with a pair of singles matches on Tuesday, as Fish will face Andrey Golubev and Querrey will tangle with Mikhail Kukushkin.

In some Blue Group action on Day 2, the four-time champion and host Germans finished off a 3-0 whipping of Serbia, and Russia ultimately doused Spain, 2-1.

Germany headed into Tuesday with a 1-0 lead against the Serbs and it posted two more wins for the victory when Florian Mayer mauled Viktor Troicki 6-2, 6-2 and a German pairing of Christopher Kas and Philipp Petzschner edged out a Serbian duo of Janko Tipsarevic and Nenad Zimonjic 5-7, 6-3, 10-7.

The Russians had already beaten the four-time champion Spaniards with a pair of singles victories here on Sunday. The Spaniards got a doubles win by Marcel Granollers and Marc Lopez, who drilled a Russian tandem of Victor Baluda and Dmitry Tursunov 6-4, 6-2.

LaDainian Tomlinson Favorite to be 2007 NFL MVP

With the first NFL preseason game less than two weeks away, it is time to start thinking about football once again at MySportsbook.com. Reigning NFL MVP LaDainian Tomlinson is currently the 5-1 co-favorite to win the award again alongside Super Bowl MVP Peyton Manning.

This shouldn’t be a surprise to anyone after his all out assault on the record books last season. For those suffering from amnesia or were under a rock last football season, all L.T. did last season was set the NFL record for rushing touchdowns (28), total touchdowns (31) and total points scored (186) to go along with his 1815 rushing yards and 508 receiving yards. At 6-1, Tom Brady is next in line which isn’t surprising considering all of the firepower the Pats added over the off-season. With the addition of Randy Moss, Donte Stallworth and Wes Welker; it would be quite difficult for Brady’s numbers not to improve from last years 3529 yards and 24 touchdowns. There appears to be some decent value in Drew Bees at 10-1 considering he probably would have won the award last year if it wasn’t for L.T.’s record breaking season.

There is no reason to think the Saints will come back to earth this season and playing in a weak NFC, they should have as good a shot as any to represent the NFC in the Super Bowl. At 15-1, Donovan McNabb could also be worth a look. Remember, many felt he was the MVP of the first half of the season before going down with a season ending injury. Reportedly, he is in great shape and well ahead of schedule to return to form. Also, he could have some added motivation to put up big numbers this season with the Eagles using their first pick in the draft on McNabb’s future successor Kevin Kolb.

Brandon Roy Favorite to Win 2007 NBA Rookie of the Year

Portland TrailBlazer’s guard, Brandon Roy, is MySportsbook.com’s overwhelming favorite to win the NBA Rookie of the Year odds.

Despite missing 20 games due to an injury earlier this season, Roy has definitely put up the best numbers of his 1st year peers. In 32 games, Roy is averaging 15.3 PPG, 4.2 boards and 3.5 assists in over 33 minutes of play per game. While most rookies breakdown as the season progresses (see Morrison), Roy is only getting stronger as his playing time and scoring average has increased each month.

With 30 or so games left in the regular season, Roy isn’t a lock for the award by any means. Other rookies are putting together some pretty impressive campaigns and a few could give Roy a run for the award with increased playing time. Heading the list is first pick, Andrea Bargnani of the Toronto Raptors. Even though he has started only two games all season, Bargnani is averaging 10.3 PPPG while shooting 35% from deep.

Randy Foye of the Minnesota Timberwolves could be set to give Roy the best competition NBA Rookie of the Year betting lines. With the benching of Mike James, Foye looks like he could be the starter in the T-Wolves backcourt for the rest of the season. So far, Foye has averaged 9 PPG and 2.4 assists in just under 21 minutes per game. With his new role of starter, Foye’s numbers will definitely increase. In his first game as the new starting guard this past Sunday, Foye had 10 points; five rebounds and 8 assists. More importantly, he logged 34 minutes of playing time; his third highest run of the season.

Adam Morrison, of the Charlotte Bobcats, was the favorite early on in the season after averaging 15+ PPG through the first month of the season. Ever since his torrid start, Morrison’s point production has declined each month. This really isn’t surprising, considering at 6’8” he only weighs 205 lbs. Obviously he will need to hit the weights big time during the off-season in order to keep from breaking down in the future.
